Camp is a week focused on all aspects of the
kids curriculum followed by an official test.
Kids will have a chance to develop their skills
at break board pace by spending a concentrated
week drilling, studying, and paying games
designed to take them to the next level.
Session 1 will be focused on making use of the
work the kids have done over the course of the
year to make a big leap forward. Session 2
will be just before school resumes and will be
focused on giving the kids a big kick-start if
they've lost any momentum over the summer.
This camp will be in full gi the entire time and
require more focus and discipline than the other
camps since it is essentially a series of five
day-long classes followed by an official test. |

Padded Weapons Camps
(Rising 2nd
graders and up)

Padded Weapons Camp we talk about the broad
categories of ancient weapons, learn about why
they were made the way they were and how to use
them, then construct foam versions of the
student's designs and practice sparring with
them individually and on teams. Each day
we move to a new category and construct a new
weapon or modify the ones we've already made.
We seldom see kids have as much fun as we always
have in this camp. In addition to getting
fun exercise and exposure to new aspects of the
martial arts, the kids learn how to conduct
themselves safely and respectfully with all the
padded weapons, develop their hand-eye
coordination, and build strategic thinking
skills. |

Animal Styles Camp
(Rising 2nd
graders and up)

Animal Camp we will spend one day on each of the
animals studied in Cuong Nhu (Monkey, Tiger,
Snake, Crane, and Dragon). The kids will
learn sections from the katas for each of these
animals and the strategy and behavior of each
group. We'll see some video, do some
reading, and construct props to enhance each
animal style. The kids are exposed to one
of the most expressive and interesting facets of
the martial arts in this camp, since eastern
martial arts have long emulated animal
strategies to capitalize on one's natural
strengths and to enhance weaker areas. We
learn that there are all kinds of people with a
wide variety of attributes, and there is a
viable animal strategy for each one. |
